A New Shape Matching System Using Efficient Morphological Shape Decompositon Scheme

There are numerous applications where geometric patterns need to be checked and compared. An important class of applications are industrial inspection systems and retrieval systems, which search an object from a large database. Morphology based shape representation approach is one of the simplest structural representation methods which represents the shape by simpler shape components. In this paper, we propose a new shape matching algorithm based on an efficient morphological shape decomposition algorithm. The main advantage of this algorithm is that each shape component is represented by a single centre point and shape of decomposed component. This feature allows the development of a new shape matching system.
